Executive Briefings
A half-day or one-day CMMI Orientation is available for managers who would like a high-level overview of the model. This orientation is geared toward management concerns, such as understanding the CMMI's benefits and ROI, developing a get-started strategy, and understanding the sponsorship and resources that are required to ensure success. Briefings can be customized to meet your organization's specific business and performance improvement needs.

Appraisal Methods
Virtual (public) classes and dates: Building Organizational Capability, July 29-31, 2026. 8am - 5pm PST (start time is flexible)This is the CMMI Institute's official 3-day course that covers the latest version (V3.0) of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI). It provides a foundational introduction to the CMMI’s Core and 8 domain-specific Practice Areas that are now covered by the model. This detailed course will help prepare you for taking the CMMI Practitioner exam, which is a prerequisite for participating on a CMMI Appraisal as an ATM. Using a combination of lectures, exercises, and class discussions, the course will teach you how to apply the CMMI’s concepts in real-world settings and the business value that can result by improving your organization’s performance and capabilities.
Value-added examples using the CMMI to improve your organizational capabilities will be provided by Diane McDonald, based on her 20+ years of experience and collaborative support to numerous defense and commercial companies. The course includes all materials, 30-day online Model Viewer access, and one credit for the CMMI Practitioner Exam. The training also provides the necessary foundational knowledge for more advanced study of the CMMI.
StepUp Solutions typically provides the above courses virtually, as either public or private offerings. An additional benefit of a private/company delivery is the ability to gear discussions toward your particular business environment and product domain. Lastly, public offerings may also be held in the Sacramento, CA area.

This course introduces those interested in participating as team members on a informal gap analysis. It is also foundational to the CMMI Institute's training required for Appraisal Team Members (ATMs). The Method Definition Document (MDD) provides a set of requirements and processes for conducting appraisals relative to the CMMI. It provides guidance to an appraisal team to gain insight into an organization's processes and performance capabilities by identifying strengths and weaknesses as related to the CMMI practices.

- Product development/maintenance managers, practitioners, suppliers, and support personnel (QA, CM) who have a vested interest in managing or using the above related processes.
